Ski holidays in Italy combine world-class ski resorts, traditional old towns, lively apres ski and the largest ski area in Europe - the Sella Ronda in the Dolomites. Italy is also a cheaper alternative to ski resorts in France, Austria and Switzerland. Skiing in Italy spans from the Italian Alps in the west to the mighty Dolomites in the east. Italy offers a fusion of old and new, with pretty, narrow streets, chic boutiques, trattorias and pizzerias, and a plethora of bars and discos. Skiing in Italy offers endless kilometres of lift-linked slopes throughout the Milky Way and SuperDolomiti region, a family-friendly atmosphere, and a lively apres ski scene. Ski holidays are often based in the popular resorts of Sauze d'Oulx, Bardonecchia, Sestriere, Cortina and Courmayeur. Sauze d'Oulx is one of the main resorts in the Milky Way and boasts a massive 400 kilometres of runs, appealing to skiers and snow boarders of all abilities. The majority of runs in Sauze are suited to intermediates, but there are also good nursery slopes and some demanding black runs. The mountain restaurants are a perfect place to while away the afternoon, with their friendly, family atmosphere. The town centre features a pretty old town with cobbled streets and attractive old architecture. In stark contrast, the area closer to the bottom of the slopes is scattered with lively bars and pulsating nightclubs.
