The world famous ski resort of Val d'Isere is located 2.5 hours from Chambery and 3.5 from Lyon. Along with nearby Tignes, Val d'Isere forms part of the Espace Killy Ski Area, and features 300 kilometres of varied piste, 52 kilometres of cross-country, and a superb snow record. Val d'Isere is characterised by its charming alpine chalets and high rugged mountains.
The quickest way to the ski area is to catch either the Funival underground funicular from La Daille or the 30-person gondola that also takes you from the foot of the nursery slopes to the top of Bellevarde. The large ski area is a mecca for skiers and snow boarders throughout Europe.
The Pissaillas Glacier provides year-round skiing. Snowboarders will enjoy the two snow parks and off piste with its numerous powder stashes. The ski school is popular with children and adults alike. Off-snow activities include ice-skating, paragliding, hang gliding and walking trails.
