Nestled at the foot of the mighty Mont Blanc, Chamonix is surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery. The resort is a 1.5-hour trip from Geneva and is set in the Mont Blanc Ski Area and offers 162 kilometres of piste. There is varied terrain to suit everyone, but intermediates have a huge range of superb runs, and for the experts there is fantastic range of off-piste skiing. The snowboarding in particular is rated as the best freeriding in Europe and offers three snow parks. Chamonix also boasts one of Europe's highest cable cars and a cog railway. Chamonix is a vibrant alpine town with attractive architecture and a huge variety of shops, boutiques, bars cafes and restaurants, and there are also lots of non-skiing activities, such as a bowling alley, sports centre, swimming pool, ice rink, paragliding, hang gliding and hiking. The ski school is very good and the resort is perfect for families and offers a great creche.
