Fethiye Holidays
Basking alongside a picturesque bay dotted with islands, Fethiye is an ancient town crammed full of traditional charm. Keeping a watchful eye on the town from above are a ruined fortress and the spectacular Lycian rock tombs, which bring tourists here with their cameras. Sunset is the best time to visit the rock tombs, but beware – it’s quite a climb up the steps. Most definitely worth the climb though!
Down near the harbour, you’ll discover the remains of a Roman theatre too, currently being lovingly restored. However if ancient sites aren’t your idea of holiday fun, then think about taking the 12 island boat tour around the bay, and stopping off at some to explore. Or catch a water taxi across the bay to Calis Beach, where you can take to the water on a windsurfer or ringo, or flop in the sun on the shimmering shores. If you fancy a bit of retail therapy, Tuesday is market day along the canal, but every day is shopping day along the narrow, cobbled streets which twist through the old town.
During the evenings, wander around the harbour quarter for the best choice of restaurants, which range from grills and seafood to traditional Turkish fare al fresco-style under the stars. If you have energy left to burn, then Hamam Sokak is the street for nightlife, with a good selection of bars and a couple of clubs where you can give your dancing shoes a work out. Whatever you want to do, there’s no better place to discover traditional Turkey than this real Turkish treat.
