Sousse Holidays
Holidays in Sousse combine beautiful golden sands, fine cuisine, and a treasure trove of historic sites. Colourful Sousse is one of Tunisia's oldest cities, and dates back to the Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs. The city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old port of Sousse offers a wealth of historic sites, including its walled medina, 8th-century fortress, and the 9th-century Great Mosque.
The medina is a maze of old covered alleyways, where visitors can haggle over jewellery, copper goods, and rugs in a relaxed, friendly setting and browse the abundance of shops and stalls. The town also boasts a fine collection of museums and monuments. Well worth a visit is the Mosaic Museum and The Traditional Tunisian House. A little further a field visitors can explore the Roman Ampitheatre in El Jem, enjoy dessert treks and camel rides, and visit Figuiera Zoo.
The long, sandy beach of Sousse shelves gently into the turquoise sea. Those who tire of sunbathing can enjoy a choice of thrilling water sports, including windsurfing and water skiing. Sousse boasts a good choice of restaurants serving traditional dishes, including locally caught fish, and international favourites. Evenings are spent enjoying drinks in street bars and cafes or taking in a show at the casino.
