Malta Holidays
Places in Malta:
St Julian's Bay
Situated south of Sicily and north of Tunisia, holidays in Malta offer year-round sunshine. The island measures just 19 miles from end to end, but despite its tiny size, Malta is the largest island in the Maltese archipelago. The history of the island dates back 7000 years, spanning across the Phoenicians, Byzantines, Arabs, Romans and Knights of the Order of St John.
Holidays in Malta combine charming traditions, spectacular architecture and unique cuisine. The Maltese capital of Valletta is a listed UNESCO World Heritage site. Here visitors can stroll across the Grand Harbour, admire the prehistoric artefacts at the National Museum of Archaeology, and visit the 16th-century Cathedral of St John. Another important city is the former capital, Mdina, with its old walled entrance and maze of narrow medieval streets.
The spectacular climate on the island often means the beach season can last until late October. Most holiday resorts in Malta are dotted around the north coast; St Paul's Bay, Bugibba and Qawra are some of the most popular and offer a dizzying array of accommodation, shops, bars and restaurants. The crystal-clear waters of Malta are also popular for water sports, with diving, windsurfing, swimming and sailing. Located on the east coast, Sliema is known for its sophisticated waterfront bars and cafes, while St Julian boasts the best nightlife on the island.
