Nightlife in Kalamaki is relatively laid-back, most tourists congregate in the bars, but there is also a disco. Those seeking a livelier night can jump in a taxi and head to nearby Lagana. Popular hiking and biking trails pass olive groves and pretty coastal scenery. Excursions include a daytrip to the island's capital, three miles, (five kilometres) away. Zakynthos Town features lively squares, excellent shopping, a Venetian fortress, pretty churches, narrow streets, and a museum of art. Other popular excursions include the Blue Caves and notorious shipwreck.
