Malia Holidays
Located on the north coast of Crete, Malia is best known for its lively atmosphere and pulsating nightlife. But holidays in Malia are not solely for young partygoers - it also boasts one of the best beaches on the island as well as a picturesque old town. The beach is packed with fine, golden sand, which stretches for three miles along the coast and is dotted with sun beds and umbrellas. The more active tourist can try their hand at water sports, including jet skiing, pedaloes, and windsurfing.
Lining the beach is a string of bars and cafes so avid sunbathers won't have to walk far to quench their thirst. Malia offers an abundance of shops, selling local crafts, leather goods, jewellery and souvenirs. Holidays in Malia are not complete without a visit to the busy harbour town of Aghios Nikolaos, 18 miles, (30 kilometres) away, and a trip to the island's capital, Heraklion, 20 miles, (32 kilometres) away.
The main street 'the strip' runs inland from the beach, and here visitors will find a wealth of restaurants, including traditional Greek dishes as well as international favourites, such as Chinese, Indian, Mexican and American. In the evening, the strip comes alive with bars, pubs and discos, and Malia lives up to its reputation as the ultimate party town. Those seeking a quieter alternative can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the old town, which manages to retain its traditional charm.
