Holidays in Aghios Nikolaos are set in the beautiful gulf of Mirambellou. The resort is located 43 miles, (69 kilometres) from Heraklion. Aghios Nikolaos town centre overlooks the stunning Lake Voulismeni, which is linked to the sea via a narrow canal. Visitors can relax over coffees in one of the many cafes lining the harbour and watch the multicoloured fishing boats sailing in and out. A mosey around the small shops and street markets of Aghios Nikolaos will unveil a selection of jewellery, shoes, clothes and tasty local food.

An attractive promenade fringes the shingle beaches of Aghios Nikolaos, and here visitors will find a wealth of water sports. A 20-minute walk from the town centre is the long stretch of sand known as Almyros Beach. Points of interest in Aghios Nikolaos include: the Archaeological Museum, which displays a wonderful selection of Minoan artefacts, and boat trips to Barbarossa's Cave and the Venetian fortress of Spinalonga. Keen walkers will enjoy exploring the beautiful coastline.

Evenings can be spent drinking in lively tourist bars or mix with the locals in the more relaxed bars on the south side of the harbour. Holidays in Aghios Nikolaos boast a fine selection of restaurants. The tavernas overlooking the lake are quite pricey, but a stroll around the harbour or the Kitroplatia area will offer a greater choice at cheaper prices. There are even a few discos for those who fancy a late night.
