Playa Dorada

Palm-lined beach, Dominican Republic Glass-bottom boat, Dominican Republic Punta Cana Beach, Domincan Republic

Situated on the northwest coast of the Dominican Republic, holidays in Playa Dorada combine ultimate relaxation, beautiful scenery and plenty of activities. Nicknamed the 'Amber Coast' for its large deposits of amber, the Dominican Republic's northern coast is known for its spectacular golden sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Playa Dorada's endless stretch of sand is the most popular beach on the northern coast, and has a tendency to get crowded due to its abundance of beachfront hotels.

Holidays in Playa Dorada are suitable for all tastes and ages. Visitors can enjoy scuba diving or snorkelling and exploring the wealth of tropical marine life. The offshore breeze also makes Playa Dorada popular for windsurfing and sailing. The main street, Plaza Playa Dorada, is lined with a number of small shops. Evenings are spent in lively bars, or enjoying live shows and discos in hotels.

Holidays in Playa Dorada include popular excursions. Visitors can take the cable car up to Mount Isabel de Torres, browse the shops in Calle Beller, three miles, (five kilometres) away, and enjoy a round of golf at the nearby 18-hole course. Visitors to Playa Dorada can also explore the neighbouring beaches, including the large, lively Luperon Beach, with its range of water sports, eight miles, (13 kilometres) away.
