Puerto Santiago Holidays
The former fishing village of Puerto Santiago is now one of the largest resorts on Tenerife's west coast. Surprisingly however, it does manage to retain its traditional charm and a relaxed atmosphere. The resort is particularly popular with families and couples. The town itself is set on a hillside and dotted shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Visitors can tuck into traditional Canarian dishes or opt for international favourites, such as Italian, Thai, Mexican and Indian. The older part of town is set further up the hill, with its narrow streets and traditional flavour.
Puerto Santiago beach
Puerto Santiago's beach, although quite small, is popular with sunbathers and swimmers. However, swimmers should be wary of the strong undercurrents along this stretch of west coast. Visitors can try their hand at a wealth of water sports, including scuba diving, jet skiing and wind surfing. Holidays in Puerto Santiago also offer access to a range of neighbouring beaches, such as the black volcanic sands of Playa la Arena, just 500 metres along the coast.
Excursions in Puerto Santiago
Local buses regularly links the resorts up and down the west coast. Alternatively, a taxi costs approximately 3 euros to Playa la Arena. Holidays in Puerto Santiago offer a variety of excursions. Tourists can visit the dramatic Acantilados de los Gigantes, 'Cliffs of the Giants', take a trip to the unspoilt island of La Gomera, explore the natural beauty of Mount Teide National Park, enjoy whale watching off the coast of Los Gigantes, or head to neighbouring Playa San Juan's Wednesday farmer's market.
