Porto Colom Holidays

On the east coast of Majorca, lies the traditional fishing village of Porto Colom. The resort is situated 40 miles, (65 kilometres) east of the capital, Palma. Holidays in Porto Colom offer a wide choice of spectacular beaches. The main beach is Cala Marcal, which is ideal for families with its gently sloping sands and calm seas. During the summer months, water sports and volleyball are a popular pastime. Surrounding beaches include S'Algar, Cala Sa Nau, and the twin beaches of s'Arenal.

Porto Cristo is renowned for its natural harbour, and along with Porto Cristo's, it is the largest harbour on Majorca's east coast. Lining the harbour is an ample selection of shops mostly selling souvenirs. There are also a couple of supermarkets for the self-catering holidaymakers. Porto Colom features a market twice a week where visitors can haggle over local arts and crafts. The hotels in Porto Colom are generally three of four stars.

Those who want a break from sun bathing can hire a car, as public transport is limited on the east coast, and explore the surrounding countryside and villages. Nearby excursions include the Caves of Drach, which date back to the fourth century, and the Caves of Hams, discovered in 1907. Local fiestas in Porto Colom include The Fiesta of the Three Kings, which takes place in January, and La Verge del Carme, held in mid July.
